GTA 4: PC and Consoles visual Comparision

- Soon PC gamers can roam the streets of Liberty City with Niko B. All the waiting finally pays off, since Rockstar Games give the PC version some graphics enhancements like a higher range of visibility. PCGH was on site in Leipzig, Germany.

At the Games Convention we had the chance to take a look at the PC version of the latest Grand Theft Auto offspring for the first time. According to Rockstar Games there are new features: better streaming, new textures with higher resolutions, a higher visibility range and the possibility to set the resolution up to 2,560 x 1,600. Additionally there are new game modes for the multiplayer and a function, which constantly records the game. This allows you to replay the last 30 seconds from various camera positions and edit the individual clips to create a video.

You can choose between mouse and keyboard or the Xbox 360 controller for PC. Those who played the predecessor already know that those features are not that innovative. The PC version of GTA San Andreas had a quite similar list of improvements.

The displayed Beta version of GTA 4 (PC) is not free of bugs. Tree textures sometimes looked very cubic and there were problems with the shadows. In general the critical points of the PC graphics are the same as they had been with the consoles. The Bloom effect is excessively used, textures appear to be washed-out and the characters or buildings in the background could have been a little more detailed.

But fans of the game series won't mind all that, when GTA 4 will be released for the PC on November, 21.

StarCraft 2 Graphics Requirements Confirmed

As the SIGGRAPH event is over for this year, there are some quite interesting things that have been revealed through it. Of course the new cooperation between Blizzard and AMD originally seemed to be of some interest at first glance, but IncGamers' StarCraft network site; StarCraftWire.net has let their tech guru loose on some of the papers that were published for the lectures by AMD, and has come to much more interesting conclusions.

The cooperation between AMD and Blizzard surely seems to be more than just a PR trick or getting free graphics cards for BlizzCon, as the documents Blizzard provided themselves hold new, exclusive information about StarCraft 2 system requirements. In this case "only" the requirements for graphics cards, but you will find out a lot more information from this with the help of PC hardware expertise and thorough analyse:

"This is in line with information provided by Xordiah in QA session 13 that the game required Pixel Shader 2.0 support. My article last month, StarCraft 2 System Requirements, contained my analysis in which it became clear that in terms of the GeForce series, the FX line was the bottom grade. This appears to be complete confirmation, the graphical situation was as I expected. I appear to have been near dead on regarding ATI Radeon cards as well." , my prediction of a 9700 being considered minimum only just below the Radeon 9800 stated above.

Sadly if you're expecting total confirmation of all the specifications listed in my first article, you're not in luck today, but this has been a major breakthrough and allow people to plan their hardware purchases with a little more reassurance of compatibility with Blizzard's next up and coming game. We are going to follow this closely, and you can ask any questions you want about this, or other probable system requirements for StarCraft II or Diablo III in my own StarCraft 2 tech forum.
